Back to back, in the kind of heat that burns you alive.
Lenzerheide came the week straight after Leogang — back to back. I had to travel out on the Wednesday, which left me exactly two days at home in between. At least it wasn't far, which made life a little easier.
Finding an apartment turned out harder than I expected. I got one reasonably close to the track in the end — fine for the daily drive, even if half an hour in the car after a full working day is never quite what you want. Lesson logged for next season: book the hotels the moment the calendar drops.
I'd brought my bike, and with the Wednesday arrival I had the Thursday free — so I went and explored the area on two wheels for once, instead of on foot or from the car. Two hours in, my drivetrain gave out completely. It's never without a hiccup; there's always something. After a couple of hours sorting a way back, I limped home and packed the bike straight away — it was done.
Two layers of sunscreen, every morning — or the World Cup burns you alive.
The weather at Lenzerheide was the most extreme yet: brutally, relentlessly hot. Hot enough that you couldn't step outside without sunscreen and a hat. If there's a running theme to this season, it's exactly that — two layers of sunscreen every single morning, no exceptions.
On the work side it was a great weekend: a stack of projects, behind-the-scenes moments and some Instagram reels I'm genuinely proud of. And the racing delivered — Luca Martin took the win for Cannondale Factory Racing, and the celebration in the team tent afterwards was as much fun as anything all year. Then a two-hour drive, and I was home again, which after a week like that is exactly what you want.
